  • What small thing made your week better?
  • What is a skill you would love to learn?
  • What is your favorite way to spend a free hour?
  • Which place would you happily visit again?

Choose a question that fits your group

For a new group, ask about everyday preferences or small wins. For a team that meets often, ask what people are learning or looking forward to. For a class, give students time to think before calling on anyone. Avoid questions about family, money, health, or other personal topics unless the group already agreed to share them.

Try a round of 20-second answers when time is short. In a virtual meeting, paste the question into the chat and ask everyone to answer at once. With a large group, pair people up first and invite only a few volunteers to share with everyone.

Make it a good round

Let people pass. A friendly, specific question works better than “tell us about yourself.”
